Lockheed Martin announces D-Day80 activities in UK

London, June 3, 2024 – Lockheed Martin will commemorate the sacrifice of Allied servicepeople during the D-Day through a number of activities planned for the week of D-Day80.

On June 8 & 9, the company will be the headline sponsor of the Southwick Revival at Southwick House near Portsmouth.

Several descendants of the Supreme Commanders who led the D-Day invasion in 1944 from Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces (SHAEF) at Southwick House near Portsmouth, will recreate the iconic photograph taken in the Map Room the day before the invasion.

Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Allied Supreme Commander on D-Day; Richard Tedder, son of Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder, Eisenhower's deputy; Viscount Henry Montgomery, grandson of General Sir Bernard Montgomery; and William Ramsay, grandson of Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay, the Naval Commander-in-Chief of the D-day landings will be present on Saturday to open the Revival, recreate the photograph and talk about their Grandfather’s D-Day experiences. Details of the event can be found at https://southwickrevival.co.uk/.

The photograph will be made available to Photo Desks on Saturday afternoon immediately after the event.

The company is also taking part in Portsmouth City Council’s D-Day80 Educational Programme in Portsmouth, paying for 100 local schoolchildren to visit Portsmouth City Council’s D-Day Story for free. The school visits inspire children through authentic object handling, interactive displays throughout the museum and the opportunity to step on board the last surviving landing craft tank that took part in D-Day.

Lockheed Martin employees across the UK will also take part in commemoration ceremonies throughout the week including the UK National Event on Southsea Common, Portsmouth and memorial ceremonies near to the company’s facilities in Bedfordshire, Hampshire and in Scotland, to observe the national two-minute silence.
