£18m Contract for Logistics Technology to Keep Track of UK Military Kit

WARMINSTER, WILTSHIRE 22 July 2015 – Millions of military equipment parts used by the UK Armed Forces will continue to be managed by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT)’s logistics technology after the Ministry of Defence awarded a new £18 million contract.

The new contract extends the MOD’s use of Lockheed Martin’s Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (JAMES) for a further six years.

JAMES enables users across the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force to quickly identify the status, availability, condition, ownership, location and quantity of equipment, big or small. It can even be used to track how many miles a vehicle has been driven or how many shots a weapon has fired.

Users can access information on items from screws and bolts through to weapons and vehicles. That means there can be real-time exchanges of reliable, up-to-the-minute information that support quick and quality decision-making, improving operational effectiveness.

Lockheed Martin’s JAMES solution was first selected by the MOD in 2004 and since then, the system’s software has been upgraded to manage an increasingly complex portfolio. It now handles over 10 million transactions every month carried out by over 27,000 users.

“I’ve seen the JAMES technology prove its worth time and again,” Group Captain Andrew Mickleburgh, Deputy Head for the Ministry of Defence’s Support Chain Information Services Transformation Projects, said. “It is seen as a force multiplier by the front line command user community, and there is no doubt that the planning and decision support capability JAMES provides will show ever-increasing utility in the years ahead.”

“By improving the capability and functionality of JAMES, it has become a vital tool for the UK military to allow them to make the right decisions, quickly and effectively. The system has brought a number of benefits over the last decade, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the MOD under this new six-year contract,” Andy Shaffer, transformational logistics lead of Training and Logistics Solutions for Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training, said.

JAMES is managed between a team based in Warminster in Wiltshire and a team in Orlando, Florida.
